![]() Eminent Reclaim: The number one transportation priority for Pasadena is the construction of the Metro Blue Line Light Rail project from downtown Los Angeles through east Pasadena. It has the greatest capacity to relieve congestion on freeways and neighborhood streets, as the line can transport the same number of people as a four-lane freeway during rush hour. Yet this crucial transportation project may be abandoned by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which voted to suspend all work on the Blue Line and other rail projects until at least late summer. Millions of dollars have already been spent on the Pasadena rail line. Land for the train tracks and the station is already purchased. Over 6,000 tons of rail is bought at a total cost of about $5 million. About 34,000 concrete railroad ties purchased for $12 million are stacked on top of each other and stored at the end of the line. The bridge over the Los Angeles River has been built, and rail cars have been purchased for the line. The Blue Line can be completed far sooner and at less cost than the 710 Freeway -- and offers greater relief from traffic. Let's make sure the Blue Line stays on track. |
