Eminent Reclaim:
Manage Peak-Time Regional Traffic

Return to the Eminent Reclaim Index

Neighborhood streets are already choked with peak-time regional traffic -- and will only get worse with the 710 Freeway, according to studies. Pasaden needs relief now. Measures have already been identified that can move commuter traffic through the city with minimal impact on neighborhoods.

Inexpensive, do-able solutions that can relieve traffic now include:

  • Channel peak-hour traffic away from our neighborhoods and onto commercial streets, such as Fair Oaks, Raymond and Arroyo Parkway
  • Extend Raymond Avenue through excess land at the Water and Power Department plant to connect with the Pasadena Freeway and provide an alternative route into South Pasadena
  • Complete the Metro Blue Line Light Rail from downtown Los Angeles to east Pasadena
  • Create exclusive bus lanes on major arterial streets, such as Rosemead, Arroyo Parkway and Fair Oaks
  • Construct the Alameda Corridor project which will help relieve the truck traffic on the 5 Freeway
  • Syncronize signals on commercial streets
  • Provide car pool or "high occupancy vehicle" lanes on surface streets that connect to freeways, including Rosemead and Arroyo Parkway

Let's not wait for a freeway that will only add to the gridlock; let's permanently fix the problem now.
